Henry County Opens New Multi-Generational Recreation Center in Hampton
Henry County, GA – April 22, 2025 – On Monday afternoon, Henry County Board of Commissioners, county officials and staff celebrated the grand opening of the new N. Mt. Carmel Park Recreation Center located at 307 N. Mt. Carmel Road in Hampton. The multi-generational recreation center was funded by the county’s SPLOST V program.
Community leaders and residents gathered at the new recreation center for the ribbon cutting ceremony and plaque reveal. District V Commissioner Kevin Lewis cut the ribbon officially marking the beginning of this new chapter for the community.
“This project has been a long time in the making,” said Lewis. “Investing in infrastructure and public safety equates to a good quality of life.”

After the ceremony, Henry County Parks and Recreation staff led attendees on a tour of the facility.
“This facility is a testament to our commitment to investing in spaces that bring our community together, promote wellness and enrich the lives of Henry County residents,” said Chairwoman Carlotta Harrell.
N. Mt. Carmel Park Recreation Center features a grand two-story glass entrance lobby with a beautiful seating area and reception counter. There is also a café with a variety of refreshments, a state-of-the-art electronic gaming room, an art room, two indoor full-sized basketball courts, an indoor walking track, a fitness center and several rooms for meetings and events. A new playground will also be added to the facility in the near future.
District V’s upcoming road improvement projects will provide residents across the county with more access to the recreation center.
“We are making sure that we are investing tax dollars back into the county so that residents can enjoy all the county has to offer,” said Lewis.
Georgia State Representative Robert Flournoy Jr. expressed excitement for the new recreation center and future opportunities for Henry County.
“This is only the beginning, not just for infrastructure, but there are many amazing things taking place in our county,” he said.
The Board of Commissioners, county officials and staff expressed gratitude to all contributors for their dedication and hard work in bringing this project to reality and described the positive impact it has on the county.
“This facility shows the power of SPLOST in creating spaces for residents to enjoy,” said Executive Director of Leisure and Public Services Jonathon Penn. “Henry County is the place to be.”
